What does it mean to you to be a nasty woman?

Being a nasty woman, to me, means not giving a shit about what society expects of you & just expressing yourself the way you want to. There are so many ridiculous expectations and rules for women, and often times it feels like when you don’t follow them, you’re labeled as “rebellious,” or “promiscuous,” or “bitchy,” or, in the words, of Tr*mp, ~nasty.~ Being a nasty woman is taking ownership of those labels and throwing it back into society’s face :)

Is there a quote/motto you try to live by? If so, what is it?

Yes! There’s two - “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone” and “Nothing is real.” I forget who said the first one, but the second one is mine! Lmao. I literally have these posted on one of my bedroom walls so I can be reminded of them every day. They always help me push myself to grow, learn and challenge myself, but also not to take myself too seriously because, alas, nothing is real!

Coffee or tea? COFFEE, are you crazy!?

Go to beauty products? Boy brow & Halescope by Glossier. Everything else is drugstore hehe

What’s one thing that’s always in your handbag? My airpods.

Favorite indulgence? Reading!

Girl crush? Jennifer Aniston always & forever.

Go to outfit?

High-wasted Levi blue jeans with my old-school Dave Chappelle T-shirt (my comedy version of a band tee) with white Reebok sneakers.

Favorite brand? American Two Shot.

Who is a woman you look up to and why?

Reese Witherspoon. She’s a baller ass bitch who has made so much progress for women in Hollywood and the media. She doesn’t take shit from anyone and started a company whose purpose is to make movies by women, for women - none of that male gaze, women-only-talk-about men bullshit. I think she’s the most perfect example of how you can make a difference by doing what you love.

How do you incorporate women’s rights into your job?

Ugh, how do I NOT is a better question. Women’s rights have completely influenced my work, as I am a young feminist with a passion for constantly talking about and working toward a better world for women. As a comedian who intends on being successful, I view comedy as my medium for expressing my thoughts and opinions on women’s rights. I have a handful of jokes about being a woman that people have told me have made them laugh really hard, but then also think, like, “shit, that’s actually really true.” That’s the exact emotion I hope to leave people with after they see me on stage. A lot of the videos I produce are made with the intention to capture this same emotion - I make a bunch of videos where I have guys fill in the blanks on different female topics, and often times, they don’t know the answers. The initial reaction when you watch them is always “ha-ha, look how stupid these guys are.” But then you get this lingering thought of, “yikes, that’s actually kinda scary.” When people tell me this, I’m always extremely flattered because it confirms that what I’m doing is helping to deepen the conversation. I think anybody who truly cares about advancing the perception and treatment of women in society can find some way to do this in their field of work too.

What message/word would you wear on your RP custom jewelry? Why?

Narcissist! I wear it every day :) I love taking ownership of this word. The truth is, as a young millennial woman who does stand-up comedy and stars in videos for a living, I’m pretty narcissistic. But I hate how that word always has to sound so negative. Everybody’s a narcissist. Everybody is the center of their own universe. So I like to wear it around my neck to basically let everyone know that I’m in on the joke. It adds a fun level of irony to the word :)

General advice for anyone reading this?

LOVE YOURSELF. I know self-love and self-care feel so overdone at this point, but they’re so so SO important. Something I love to do every morning is affirmations - I say things out loud like, “I am competent. I am talented. I am going to have a great day,” and that quite literally speaks them into existence. We live in a time where everything from the political climate to the never-ending media consumption to the expectations of human beings are so out of this world RIDICULOUS, that I think it’s really important to remember to stop yourself a few times a day and do little things to make yourself happy and remind yourself that YOU and YOUR well-being come first, always.
