Sweat it out, sip it up at Candier's Solidcore NYC Popup

Solidcore NYC hosts Candier pop-up cafe

This summer, Candier popped up at Solidcore NYC with a wellness-inspired event. At the heart of it all was matcha, the ultimate ritual for balance and energy. To celebrate our Matcha My Freak candle, we paired movement with mindfulness, showing how a sweaty workout and a soothing matcha moment can both be acts of self-love.

Guests joined us for a high-energy Solidcore class before being treated to a post-sweat matcha moment. We styled the space with our signature Candier touches, and invited Morning Matcha to hand out free handmade lattes. The vibe was all about balance: strength and softness, energy and calm.

The Matcha My Freak candle was front and center. This matcha candle blends earthy tea notes with sweet undertones, creating a scent that feels just as grounding as a cool matcha latte after class. Attendees loved the connection between their workout ritual and the calming burn of a food scented candle at home.

Our Content Manager Abby said, “As a lover of matcha and workout classes, this was such a cute event! Who doesn’t need a little pick me up after a high energy workout class? Matcha is the perfect drink for after class.”

The pop-up wasn’t just about candles or workouts, it was about showing how self-care rituals can take many forms.Whether it’s sweating through a tough Solidcore session, sipping on matcha, or lighting a candle to unwind, it all comes down to creating little mantras for yourself.

What does matcha taste like?

Matcha has a unique, layered flavor that’s different from regular green tea. Because it’s made from finely ground tea leaves, it carries a richer, more concentrated taste. People often describe it as:

  • Earthy and vegetal: A deep, grassy note that feels grounding.

  • Slightly sweet: Naturally smooth with a hint of umami, not bitter like some teas.

  • Creamy: When whisked, matcha develops a velvety texture that makes it feel indulgent.

  • Refreshing: Especially iced, matcha has a clean, uplifting finish that pairs beautifully with citrus, vanilla, or milk.

It’s this balance of earthy depth and natural sweetness that inspired our Matcha My Freak candle, bringing the ritual of sipping matcha into a fragrance that feels both calming and energizing.

How to make matcha

Hot Matcha Latte

  1. Sift 1–2 teaspoons of matcha powder into a bowl.

  2. Add a splash of hot water (not boiling, about 175°F).

  3. Whisk in a zig-zag motion until frothy.

  4. Pour into a mug and top with steamed milk of your choice.

  5. Sweeten with honey, agave, or vanilla if desired.

Iced Matcha Latte

  1. Sift 1–2 teaspoons of matcha powder into a glass.

  2. Add a small amount of warm water and whisk or shake until smooth.

  3. Fill the glass with ice.

  4. Add cold milk (almond, oat, or dairy all work).

  5. Sweeten to taste and stir well.

Pro tip: Try adding brown sugar, vanilla, or a splash of citrus for a more indulgent twist.

What to Expect at Solidcore

Our Matcha My Freak pop-up was hosted inside Solidcore NYC, one of the city’s most distinctive fitness experiences. Solidcore offers a 50-minute, high-intensity, low-impact, full-body resistance training workout that uses a specialized reformer machine to push muscles to the point of failure through slow, controlled movements.

Here’s what makes a class unique:

  • Reformer Machine: A Pilates-inspired machine with adjustable spring resistance to challenge every rep.

  • Slow, Controlled Movements: Each move is designed to fatigue muscles in the safest, most effective way.

  • High Intensity, Low Impact: The workout is tough but joint-friendly, making it sustainable for long-term fitness.

  • Full-Body Focus: Core, lower body, and upper body are all targeted in a single session.

  • Immersive Atmosphere: Dimmed blue neon lights, energizing music, and a community-driven vibe make each class feel transformative.

  • Personalized Attention: Small class sizes allow instructors to guide form and maximize results.

While Solidcore uses reformer machines like Pilates, it’s its own beast. The intensity, resistance focus, and goal of muscle failure set it apart from traditional Pilates, making it one of NYC’s most challenging and rewarding workouts.

Studios can be found across the city, from the Upper East Side to downtown neighborhoods. And while not every location offers showers (thanks TikTok for the tip), each studio guarantees a workout that leaves you feeling both stronger and more centered.

⚠ Safety note: Some Candier candles look and smell like food but none are edible. Always burn responsibly.
